Following the new implementation of a makerspace, a librarian describes how she reached out to students to be her “guinea pigs’ for the newly defined space. Together, they familiarized themselves with the equipment and came up with ideas for school-wide makerspace implementation. In the process, something else happened; students began tinkering and exploring their own interests and passions, and within a few weeks, a laundry list of noteworthy creations, projects, and ideas were present in the library. A community event was organized to give  students the platform they deserved to showcase their exhibits. Some of the entries included: Hologram projector, geodesic dome, “Cha Cha Slide” dance by Sphero robot, water purification demonstration, “My Bucket List” student-designed virtual reality tour, hand-drawn piano with Makey-Makey. Ultimately, the event became a testament to the idea that students can do absolutely amazing things when they are supported to explore what they love.
